Creating Kitchens and Bathrooms

Did you know that kitchens and bathrooms are the most common areas for home remodeling jobs? Because these rooms are remodeled so frequently, it stands to reason that most home builders are doing something wrong when they create them. Even those Austin home builders who have what it takes to create gorgeous, livable kitchens and bathrooms are at the mercy of their clients’ wishes. If you’ve got good, trustworthy builders working for you (and you definitely should), don’t be afraid to ask their opinions on kitchen and bathroom design. Then, actually heed what they have to say.

In addition to taking advice from the experts, also keep in mind that, in most cases, you’ll need more space than you think. Sharing that one, tiny bathroom, for example, might be cute now, but what about when you have children or visitors? Likewise, are you really going to eat in the dining room every night; isn’t it likely that some meals will just be consumed in the kitchen? You don’t have to go overboard and create giant kitchens and bathrooms, but do make them large enough to be functional for you and your family.

Checking Up On Your Contractor

There are many contractors who specialize in building Hill County custom homes, and almost all of them will try to impress you with fancy credentials and lots of promises. Don’t just believe everything you hear, however. Be smart and do your research on any contractor before you hire him or her. You can start by asking to see a contractor’s license. If he or she doesn’t have one, run for the hills! Any good contractor will gladly provide you with a professional license. What’s more is that, by asking to see the license, you let the contractor know you are smart and in-the-know and not one to be jerked around.

It’s also a smart idea to ask your contractor for references. Your contractor  should easily be able to provide you with a list of people for whom he or she has built Hill County custom homes in the past. Again, don’t just take this list at face value. Actually call those references and make sure everything checks out!

Stay in Contact with Your Contractor

When you’re in the process of building your dream home, it’s important to have a contractor whom you can call on any time you have a question, a concern, or just want to be updated on how things are progressing. Some Austin luxury home builders are great about answering your phone calls, returning your emails, or best of all,  keeping you in the loop without you having to ask. Others, however, can be hard to get ahold of and are known for leaving clients in the dark for long periods of time. If you want a pleasant experience, get a contractor who is a good communicator.

You’ll know you’ve found awesome Austin luxury home builders when your contractor willingly gives you his or her cell phone number, email address, and other personal contact information that will allow you to reach him or her at any time. This is a vote of confidence in you; your contractor trusts that you will not abuse this information. Obviously, you shouldn’t call up your contractor every second, and you should always try to reach him or her during regular business hours when possible, but it is nice to know you always have a way to get in contact if the need arises.

Consulting with your Contractor

If you, like so many people these days, got tired of looking at Lake LBJ homes for sale and decided instead to hire a contractor to build your dream home, there are some things you need to keep in mind. First things first, you must understand that your contractor has been hired or will be hired to perform a service for you. Therefore, you are the customer, so to speak, and the customer is always right! You deserve to demand the very best from your contractor, to ask questions of him or her, and to feel in control at all times.

When you hire a contractor, know that he or she will have a team of workers creating your home. You need to know, however, how often your contractor plans to be on site, where he or she can assist builders and/or ensure that the work being done on your property is satisfactory and is being completed on schedule. The more frequently your contractor plans to be around, the better.

Add a Firepit to Your Home

Whether you’re looking at Lake Travis home for sale, have made the smart decision to build a custom home, or have already settled into your new home, it’s important to think about ways to add comfort and enjoyment to your home. One of the simplest and most satisfying ways to do just that is to add a firepit to your backyard. A firepit provides you with a safe and convenient way to build a crackling fire. You can have mini camping-trips with your family, complete with roasting marshmallows and telling ghost stories around the fire, or you can just relax with good friends.

You can go all out with your firepit or choose a cheaper option. Many people opt for elaborate fire pits or outdoor fireplaces that are actually built into their outdoor areas. While these can be nice, you can save money and add flexibility by purchasing and using a pre-made firepit.

Choosing Paint Colors

When planning and building Austin custom homes, you have a lot of decisions to make. You get to decide on every last detail of your house, which is extremely rewarding but can also feel a little overwhelming to the average person. One of the most overwhelming decisions of all is deciding what paint colors to use. You have to choose a color for your home’s exterior and for the inside walls and trim. Don’t let this process stress you out too much, however. If you are having a hard time choosing colors, remember that going for simple neutrals—whites, blacks, tans, and grays—is always the best choice. Plus, you can always paint over them if you change your mind later.

When working on Austin custom homes and choosing paint colors, always be sure that you ask to see samples of the paint colors you are considering. Sometimes, the actual color can be a lot different than what you’ve envisioned in your head, so seeing the color in person can keep disappointing surprises from happening.
